A SHORT BACKGROUND on LISE…
LISE AVERY is a singer, radio personality, voiceover artist and actor. Ms. Avery has performed in nightclubs, musicals and cabarets throughout the NY metro area and internationally including The Waldorf Astoria, Delmonico’s, The Pierre Hotel, The Kool Jazz Festival, Bargemusic, The University Club, The Performing Arts Center at Purchase, The Williams Center for the Performing Arts, Trumpets, in Tuscan villas, regional theaters and numerous corporate and private functions and many, many town events and festivals like First Nights and Summer Concert Series.
Ms. Avery has also shared her love for artistry in music for the last 20 years as host and producer of Anything Goes!! with Lise Avery. Anything Goes!! with Lise Avery is a fun, unpredictable mix of standards, jazz & classic pop with a bit of almost anything else. Lise, an accomplished singer and actress, brings warmth, humor and knowledge about the music she plays. Lise has a special way of turning a phrase or playing the tune that is sure to touch you, make you smile or stir a memory….it’s like listening to your favorite music with an old friend. On Anything Goes!! you’ll also hear everything from classic comedy to cartoon themesongs and old, rare gems from classic artists. She began broadcasting Anything Goes!! in the NY Metro in 1998. Anything Goes!! is currently heard on both commercial and NPR stations in various parts of the United States as well as across Taiwan and in New Zealand. After Ms. Avery interviewed Frank Sinatra, Jr., they remained very close friends until Mr. Sinatra’s passing in 2016. Mr. SInatra allowed Lise to interview him more extensively that had been done by anyone else. Consequently, she has a great archive of stories about the Sinatra family and the golden years of show business. Ms. Avery has appeared as an expert on Frank Sinatra for television documentaries.
Since Lise went on the air with Anything Goes!!, she has had the privilege of interviewing some remarkable people. And, because of the eclectic nature of Anything Goes!!, those guests have ranged from Herb Alpert and Sir James Galway and Davy Jones of the Monkees to songwriters Jimmy Webb and Mike Stoller and comedy legend Don Rickles and hundreds of others.
Anything Goes!! is recorded at Cityvox studios in New York City. Cityvox clients include like Ghostlight Films, PBS, SONY, Disney. IBM, Coca Cola and Cambridge University Press. Documentarians Ken & Ric Burns use Cityvox exclusively to record the voiceovers for their films.
Lise’s voice has also been heard in numerous commercials, medical instruction videos, video news releases, recorded books, documentary films etc. with clients ranging from Oxford University Press, Pearson Education and Berlitz to PBS, IBM and Disney. (Recording available upon request.)
Lise was born on Long Island and spent the summers of her childhood traveling around the United States and Mexico in a trailer with her parents and her older brother, Rick. She is a graduate of the conservatory acting program at Purchase College where she whiled away her time with fellow students Stan Tucci, Steven Weber and Ving Rhames. Lise has taught voice production at several universities including Sarah Lawrence College and Montclair State University.
Lise lives in a turn-of-the century home in New Jersey with her husband George and her two cats Rascal and Musher. She is an avid scuba diver, animal lover and environmentalist and she loves hunting for treasures at flea markets and garage sales. Whenever she can she spends time at her cottage in rural Ontario, Canada with mismatched clothing and unruly hair.
